Information provided courtesy of Kananaskis Country
The Smith-Dorrien/Spray
Trail south of Canmore is a gravel road which travels through the
heart of the scenic Smith-Dorrien Valley - welcome to one of the wildest
areas of Kananaskis Country.
From the north,
you are first welcomed by the Canmore Nordic Centre. Available for
hiking and mountain biking in the summer, this world-class Nordic
ski facility is open year-round. Explore the many picnic areas and
viewpoints as you drive the Smith-Dorrien/Spray Trail. After dark,
stop and listen... wolves have returned to Kananaskis Country! Fishing,
boating, camping - Spray Lakes offers something for everyone. For
hiking, the Spray has both formal hiking trails as well as numerous
routes that are not signed or maintained.
The Goat Creek
and Watridge Lake Trails provide winter and summer access to Banff
National Park. Watridge Lake Trail also connects with trails that
lead to Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park in British Columbia. If
you are hiking into Banff National Park, be aware of National Park
Regulations.
Mount Shark Cross-country
ski area offers excellent skiing on maintained ski trails. You can
also enjoy mountain biking on the same trails in summer. Throughout
the year this wilderness area will provide you with challenge and
excitement.
